My Spring Cleaning & Updates

For me, Spring is a time for cleaning up, regrowth, and beautiful blooms. This time around, I find it being more of an emotional cleansing and growing (still waiting on the blooming), rather than a physical experience. About a month ago my company had multiple layoffs, me included. This didn't come as a shock, as our company had been acquired about a year ago. Luckily, I already had my resume updated and was searching for jobs.

If I'm being honest, I felt stuck and didn't have the motivation to up and go on my own. Selling juice cleanses to brides wasn't the worst thing a girl could be doing. As my aunt said to me when this first happened "life's little pushes are good of us, better a push than a shove." She's totally right, I needed that push to finally leave and do what I want to do. While I could give in to the stress and worry that comes along with losing a job, I'm looking at this as a positive and taking the time to really think about what I truly want and where I want to be - the possibilities are endless.

Luckily, I have a few things going on to keep me distracted. I've been diligently working on the project I mentioned earlier this year. I promise I'll fill you in later this month. To give you a hint you can follow my project's instagram account (@towerhousemag). In fact, I would very much appreciate it! I've also been exploring New York and really getting to know it's ins and outs, hitting up the museums, and talking long walks  through the parks. This is all in addition to looking for a job, of course!

Happy Monday and thank you for taking the time to read my longer than normal post.

Trends That Should Never Come Back

I think it might just be me, but I'm kind of not in love with a few of the new trends. I don't care how "fashionable" these are, but I will not be sporting them...

...instead, I'll just be rocking my onesie.

The Sea Life

This past weekend I found myself referencing my Oceanography class that I took years ago. I loved anything to do with the ocean, so naturally I thought it would be a good idea to take that class. Wrong. It was one of the worst ideas ever. At least I got to spend some quality time with BRF, avoiding answering any questions about the salinity of the ocean and the Latin names of all sea life.

I was reminded again about the class after spotting these pictures. "Under the Sea" also comes to mind, yes, you can thank me for getting that song stuck in your head.

How To: Avoid Sunburn Discomfort

I used to not burn. Ever. But after an epic sunburn on Spring break I now get sunburned after the first day out in the sun. After that one time I did some (serious) research and have my yearly routine down pat.

First things first, preventative measures are always a good idea - hello sunscreen

After my sun poisoning experience, I was introduced to Clinque's After Sun Rescue Balm, which has now become a staple in my Summer bag of tricks. I slather this on when I get out of the sun and before going to bed along with extra aloe

I like to drink lots of cold water, to cool me down and prepare my green tea bath. I prepare it ahead of time, so there is enough time to let the water cool down to a lower temp so I don't really overheat.

NOTE TO SELF: Play Catch up

While recovering from the wild month I had and the disappointment of having my class cancelled, Sandy and a snow storm hit, once again throwing my world out of whack. I finally made some progress getting back on track but then I had a friend come into town! Last week I realized I need to come up with a recovery plan.

On the list to play some quick catch-up before the holiday season:

 5 Day Cleanse
 PU'ER Dates
Magazine Project Fun
 Massage
Facial
Bubble Baths

A Little Note

No, I haven't fallen off the face of this planet (although these past couple of weeks make me want to) - I just have been beyond busy! Between work, polo matches, Chicago getaways, Gold Gala meetings, and plotting a secret vacation, I haven't really had a moment to myself. SO my apologies for the lack of notes and news.

Stay tuned next week to learn where I'll be going...it's exciting - I promise!

Olympic Fever

Is it just me or has everyone caught Olympic Fever? As much as I appreciate the Summer Olympics (rowing + gymnastics in particular) I prefer the Winter Olympics.

Oops!

My apologies for the garish/ugly contrast...

I don't know why things are coming up highlighted on my blog, but I'm working on fixing it!

Without My Cell Phone...

I would not be able to:

1. Tell you the date and time
2. Find my way in the dark
3. Wake up in the morning

I think I need to rely on my phone less...

Mission: find some fabulous time pieces!

Wisdom Recovery

I think I am the only one to gain weight while recovering from having all 4 wisdom teeth removed! It must be all that sugar and Bravo tv...

Sidenote: my face still resembles a chipmunk!

Toothaches

Because my family is somewhat sadistic, my Mom thought it would be funny to send the above pic to everyone....it is me in recovery. (FYI: I don't remember the picture being taken)

laundry day

if you are a mother, please stop reading right now. you will hate me and side with my mom.sooo i don't want to spoil this post and make you never want to read my blog again!

ok, that being said, when lila moved out of the house this fall there were many life adjustments to be made. one of the biggest (and most unfortunate) being that i now have to do my own laundry. as my many past roommates will agree, i hate doing laundry, actually no. i despise doing laundry. i would rather pay the $1 a pound to get my clothes back then do it.

i looked forward to coming home because my mom would do it for me, but after lila moved out, that was no longer a possibility. i asked my mom why i had to do it and she replaied "if lila can do her own laundry so can you" so thanks lila.

(she is one of my best friends, but there is always this tradition of some life changing thing that occurs whenever she leaves my house...)

winter wonderland round 3??

you know, i thought that i was leaving the new york snow head quarters, but, i guess i was wrong. it just moved with me!

tri-state area, i think we are in for a snowy winter!
(i hope the city doesn't look like this again...it was simply impossible to do any shopping!)

i might complain a little bit (ok, a lot) but i am enjoying the activities we can participate in!

The End of 2010

While 2010 was significantly better then 2009, I hate to say that it will have a rather lackluster end...

Thank goodness I didn't make any plans because I've been sick in bed all day with a fever! I hope everyone else has a fabulous night for me!

(Don't feel too bad for me though because my elle weekend update said I shouldn't do anything crazy anyway, and that if I did go out, something bad might happen! Check to see what yours says!)

when bad things happen to little sisters

well usally it's me who has the worst luck ever but for once this tale of woe is not about me....it's about my little sister caroline.

she got sprayed by a skunk this week! hahahahaha* yes, this actually does happen to people. . it attacked her while she was riding her bike...maybe you shouldn't ride your bike so close silly!

*(i gleefully giggle every time i tell someone about this or even think about it so i'm hoping writing it will stop me from randomly laughing to myself)
