NY Moment: Famous Townhouses and Apartments

Living in NY is never a dull moment, especially when you're just walking around as much as I do! CMJR is one of my fave walking companions because she is the best at pointing out notable townhouses and famous spots! Hopefully you'll be inspired by this post to take your own walk around the city and find your favorite "as seen on TV and the big screen" spots.

When walking around the UES, be sure to check out the townhouse where Breakfast at Tiffany's was filmed.

I always forget about the Sex and the City townhouse in the West Village (amybe because Carrie was supposed to live uptown), so it's always nice when it's pointed out to me.

Also downtown, in Greenwich Village, is the building where Friend's was filmed. What a fun spot to be in!

It's Merry Month!

While December is not one of my favorite months, I do enjoy a good New York City winter. Mainly because of the Bergdorf window displays, ice skating in Central Park, and walks fueled with hot cocoa!

TO DO: Check Out Stanley's Pharmacy

While working on my magazine project, I spotted this amazingly cheerful (for NY) image of a pharmacy called Stanley's Pharmacy. If the bright colors hadn't already drawn me in, I totally perked up when I read about the "wellness center" aspect of it. As a person who doesn't stick to traditional medicine and avoids painkillers and antibiotics at all costs, I always am intrigued by new options. Needless to say I plan on swinging by and checking it out sometime this week!

Note:  I still will use medicine as a last resort/when desperate.

My Guide to Sunnyside

Working in LIC (Long Island City) for the past 2 years has been tough. I live within walking distance from our Manhattan offices, but made the 30 minute (reverse) commute every morning. Today, we finally are 100% in Manhattan and I couldn't be more excited! For anyone who ever wants to give LIC a whirl, here are a few of my fave spots to hit up.

To Do:
1. MOMA PS1. - super fun and in the Summer, you should absolutely go to at least one PS1 warm up session.
2. While on the way to MOMA PS1 you should take the 7 train and look at the amazing 5 POINTZ graffiti. It's really amazing and cool to see, especially if you're a graffiti art fan (like me).

Food:
1. Pink Icing - great for cupcakes
2. Williamsburger - amazing burgers (not so amazing for my waistline)
3. DeMole - best quesedilla and salsa in town
4. Souk El Shater - yummy Lebanese food
5. Sage General Store - a great place to eat after going to MOMA PS1.

NY Moment: Restaurant Week

It's Restaurant Week in NY, which I'm obviously excited about! This is the one week (actually, a little over two now) where I can indulge and go to new and old faves for a fraction of the price. YUM!

Note to self: find cute elastic waistband options.

Back Home!

As much as I loved Nantucket, I'm happy to be home!

(Even though I really miss the beach and AEB time!)

New York, NY

Reasons why I love being a (native) New Yorker:

Madison Ave Shopping
All black all the time is always acceptable
The Yankees
Roasted nuts on every corner
The option to have breakfast at Tiffany's every morning
Summer weekends in the country
The fact I don't have an obvious NY accent

Spring Weather

Does this early spring weather mean a freak snow storm is going to hit?! Regardless, I am already planning picnics in the park with friends!

NYC in the 80's

These pictures by Steven Seigel are unbelievable! I was floored by the pictures featured in this article by the Gothamist, especially because I recognized a couple spots in the pictures. They weirdly inspire me to take out my camera and take some snapshots as well.

They explain why my dad refused to take the subway and why my mom thought it was a big deal that she walked across the Brooklyn Bridge.

John Derian

I love John Derian's store - it is filled with curiosities and inspiration. I especially love the trademark plate that I plan on stealing from my Dad...Shh!

Movies 101

KBW and I are taking a Wednesday night movie course where we get to see screenings of films before they get released. Needless to say, we are obsessed and love it! I can always count on KBW to find the best movie classes!

Grocery Shopping

Yesterday was day 3 of my first cleanse this year and I decided to go to the gym and then to the store to buy yummy foods to snack on tomorrow - obviously the cleanse momentarily made me insane. What on earth was I thinking? Not only did I make it about 7 (generous) minutes into my workout and have to stop, but I went wild in the store! Thank goodness I stuck to fruits and veggies (and maybe some cheese and rice cakes)!

One weird thing I noticed was my lack of hunger while preparing my lunch for tomorrow. Perhaps I may need to extend this cleanse!

PBR

PBR - short for "Professional Bull Riding" came to MSG this weekend, and I'm excited to say I went to my first event. Let me tell you, it was an interesting crowd that showed up. It was lots of fun and definitely something I never thought I would ever experience.

Yelle

The other week I got to go to a Yelle concert with two friends. We danced to our two favorite songs, Que Veux Tu and A Cause Des Garcons and got to meet them - making it officially a successful night!

Morning Walk Reflections

In a previous post, I vowed I would take the long way home and walk to and from my apartment to the subway furthest from me. While I may not have many options on exploring, it for sure has been beneficial in waking me up and giving me the time in the morning to mentally prep for the day. Now that is is getting colder I find myself working extra hard to motivate myself. Please note, I actually have been doing this every day!

Long Island City Adventures

If you are looking for a fun weekend activity I suggest getting lunch at Sage General (yum!) and then looking at MoMa PS1. Yummy food and a little bit of culture - what can be more perfect!?

C. Wonder

If you have not yet stopped by C. Wonder, you should. It is filled the the brim with girl trinkets and dog toys!

(Hint for boys - one stop holiday shopping!)
