Celebrating my birthday with family and friends tomorrow! I haven't had a true birthday celebration in so long that I'm almost nevus for tomorrow.
Birthdays are a big deal in my family - they are always celebrated and usually in a big way! Last year's 32 birthday was a total bust and if I'm being honest, my 31st birthday wasn't so great either. They each had their own especially sad circumstances surrounding them, but I'm looking forward to a fresh start. Because my 33rd birthday will be considered a "re-entry" into society for a few of my friends I want to plan a more festive occasion than normal, but still keeping it safe. This year I plan on having an "all day soiree" at the beach, with a mix of my oldest friends and a few cousin's in the mix. I'm pretty excited to just hang out with everyone, snack on some yummy food, and sip on a few cocktails.
I'm envisioning a fun day at the beach followed by a chic seaside dinner filled with flowers, palomas, and yummy food!
The overall menu will be fairly casual, but fresh and delicious. Not having a fridge on hand will be a challenge but I think a "build your own salad" option is the right choice and ending with my favorite vanilla-vanilla cake!
For those who don't like or want to swim I'll need to borrow my aunt's croquet set, my most favorite of lawn games. I also am thinking of a "books bar" for those who just want to relax and read, as well as a few other beach games.
I hope you are having a great week!

Every year I like to treat myself to a gift - usually it's something big that I have been in love with and just needed to right reason to justify the purchase. Last year I treated myself to Susan Elizabeth Phillips' new book (which at the time I considered to be a major extravagance) and this year, while I'm still trying to be especially thoughtful about my purchases, I plan on going a little bit bigger. Below is a mix of things that are on my dream wish list and that are in the running for my real birthday treat.
Kate Schelter Bain de Soleil Painting (IYKYK)
Persol Sunglasses (After 10 years my original pair broke)
Today is my 33rd birthday, so I'm starting 33 off fresh - with a brand new post and the promise to be more consistent in my writing! Turning 33 feels so...weird. For me personally, 32 was a year of reflection and returning to my roots. I spent most of my time reading, saving money, and getting back to the things I treasure most. So when my cousin told me a few months ago that 33 was considered my "Jesus year",I was intrigued. For those like me, who don't know what Jesus Year entails, it's a year where you make waves and big things happen. Given my entire year of reflection, the timing for this particular birthday is eerily perfect. I'm excited and hopeful for the year to come and look forward to sharing what this year has to bring. Thanks for sticking with me on this journey!
