Apartment Decor Wishlist

As I've gotten older my wish lists are less fashion centric and more home decor focused. Don't get me wrong - I'm still constantly thinking about outfit updates, but a priority right now is making my apartment feel more like a home. As I gear up to possibly buy an apartment or house in the near future, I can't help but be even more home design obsessed than usual. While I have to constantly talk myself out of buying any major furniture pieces until I live in my (hopefully) new space awhile, I won't stop looking for pieces that draw me in or that I may need (ex: a real coffee table). Here is a roundup of a few pieces I absolutely love at the moment.

Realizing I will need to edit my style down,

Monday Inspiration: Chic Outfit Details

My style at it's core would definitely be considered classic, erring on the side of "dressed up. As much as I aspire to be more "relaxed" that's simply not me. When paired down, my looks are very minimal, but I my love of coats, shoes, scarves, and jewelry (the list could keep going but we don't have all day) add personality to my outfits. Just because I'm at home, not working, doesn't mean I totally have to give up my personal style. Below are a few chic outfit details that are inspiring me right now.

Wondering what I should wear today,

Currently...

Like I said last week, this blog has always been a safe haven for me to share what is on my mind. I always strive to balance positivity with reality and try to share what is new an exciting in my world. As a half glass full kind of person I have been doing my best to keep that mindset going during this strange time. As a result I'm bringing back my Currently series and sharing what is going on in my life right now. So right now I'm currently...

...Praying for all of those affected by the COVID-19 virus. I know a few people who have had the virus, some who are currently experiencing it now, and others who have been exposed and are functioning with a higher than normal level of anxiety. I also know a lot of people who have been laid off or furloughed (myself included). It's a vary scary time and please know everyone is in my prayers - this too shall pass.

...Listening to the Dave Ramsey's A Message of Hope (if you missed it, you can rewatch it here). It was exactly what I needed to hear in a time of chaos and panic. He reminded us that while we can't control everything that is going on, we can control our attitude, how we manage our money, and our opportunities. Ken Coleman shared one if his favorite quotes, which I loved, is "when opportunity comes, it's too late to prepare".

...Enjoying Martha & Marley Spoon meals. I'm so thankful to have signed up for a meal delivery service now more than ever. When I learned one of my idols, Martha Stewart, has a meal kit delivery service I know I had to give it a try. I wouldn't' say these meals are the healthiest or most diet friendly, but they are easy enough and have so many delicious options. They are continuing to deliver, despite the pandemic, and have been saving me many trips to the grocery store.

...Reading On the Corner of Love and Hate by Nina Bocci. It was my turn to choose the book for book club and this time I decided to choose a book that was extra light. While I'm not sure this is a book any of my fellow book club members would have chosen, I'm hoping everyone at least enjoys a little bit of lightness in an otherwise stressful time. I'm really looking forward to planning another successful book club night in.

...Going a bit stir crazy, but hanging in there. I've finished my magazine stack, started to paint again, and am doing daily workouts but I'm still feeling a bit trapped. I didn't realize how starved for social interaction I was until I zoomed with the company I work for. It was so great seeing familiar faces and hearing what everyone else is up to. For anyone else who feels the same way - you've got this! Check in with a friend or colleague and be sure to try to get outside - even if it's for a quick 5 minute walk around the block.

Stay safe and be well,

ARS xx

Designer Love: Birdies

I hate instagram ads with a burning passion, but about a year ago I had a foot injury and a perfectly timed Birdies ad popped up. Next thing I knew, a new pair of shoes were on the way. Little did I know, I'd be falling deep into love. With the support of a sneaker and the comfort of a slipper it seemed too good to be true, but here I am a year later still in love and still wearing them. Dare I say these also make the perfect "work from home" shoe? Trust me when I say they are very much so worth it.

Adding another pair into my cart as you finish this,

Pretty Pins for Sunny Days Ahead

One of the best things I did for myself this past Monday was turn off my TV, put on the "Background Piano Music" on Spotify, and log out of instagram. I didn't feel an ounce of anxiety and I was very productive. It's easy to get caught up in the insanely fast pace of the news and social media, especially in times like this, so I decided to take a page out of the Towerhouse motto and "sit back, do a little less" and dream of sunnier days ahead. Below are a few pins that visualize what I'm thinking.

In a yellow kind of mood on this gray day,

Outfit Inspiration: Outfits I'd Rather be Wearing

Thank you for bearing with me as I get back into my blogging groove. As I sit here in my pjs, I'm finding it harder to write than usual. What naturally came to me awhile back, is a bit of a struggle now. I don't know if it's because I'm not feeling as "inspired" as I used to or if it's just overall anxiety impacting me. One of the more difficult things for me to grasp is how my daily routine just blew up. Right now I should be dressed in my uniform of all black and on my way to work. Now that I'm at home for the foreseeable future, I'm trying to navigate making a normal daily routine that is productive and healthy. I've been looking at outfits that feel more me, if I had somewhere to go or even people to see - my sister doesn't count. Just for the fun of it, I'm rounding up a few looks that I'd wear out today if I could.

Already changing out of my pjs and into some jeans,

Lake Placid Dreaming

To be honest, I'm a bit stir crazy and keep dreaming of places I would much rather be. Lake Placid is a place I keep circling back to. I don't know what it is about Lake Placid that draws me in, but I've been in love ever since I went to school up in the North Country. I'm totally guilty of looking at real estate up there and I even found a house I would love to buy. At this point, I'm not able to afford a second home, but a girl can dream (and boy am I dreaming!). Below is some inspiration I have put aside for a future Adirondack cottage.

Hope you aren't going as crazy as I am,

Pretty Pins for Uncertain Times

This blog has gotten me through many ups and downs over the 10+ years I've been writing. While I used to post regularly, as my career has taken off I've been much more sporadic in sharing my thoughts and discoveries and when I do share, it's usually on instagram. One thing that has remained consistent is my habit of turning to this space during uncertain times. As I sit in my little New York studio, doing my part by social distancing, I'm so grateful to have this blog to turn to. I'm sure I'm not the only one experiencing a boatload of uncertainty and anxiety, so I'm sharing a few pretty pins that are reminding me that better, sunnier days will be back eventually.

Be well and be safe,

ARS xx
